If you’re getting married this year then hopefully you’ve already started thinking about sending out your wedding invites. It can be quite confusing to know what to include on your invites and how to start working with a stationer, so here are some tips from the lovely Chloe at Herve Jones Designs to help you out.
When should you send them?
It’s a good idea to send your
Save the dates = 18 – 12 months prior
Invitations = 8 – 6 months prior
On the day stationery = Should ideally be with you 1 month prior
The process
Chloe says “When it comes to designing all of my designs are created bespoke for each couple, so it’s key to book in with me 4-6 months in advance so you get the slot you want. If you have a summer wedding and want to get your invites out in January book in at least 6 months before.
Initially I have a meeting with my couples to first talk through the sort of items they are looking for whether that be save the dates, wedding invites or on the day items. I can quote at the meeting for all 3 stages so it gives the couple an idea of costs. If they are happy to proceed I then ask for a deposit and I can book in all their time slots ready for their artwork to be produced.
When I start work on the design I usually allow a couple of days to get it perfect and then it takes around 3 days for me to actually make them as I make everything in house. To achieve this quickly I set up a WhatsApp group with each of my couples so we can send designs back and forth until everyone is happy.”
Top tip from Chloe
“One tip to always remember when it comes to save the dates and wedding invites is to count how many you will need before the meeting. You only need one per household and not one per person which is a common mistake when ordering.”
What to include on your wedding invites
1. Your names
2. The date of your wedding
3. Your ceremony time (you will want to put this 30 – 45 minutes before your actual ceremony so guests aren’t late)
4. Ceremony and reception location (make sure to include the postcode)
5. RSVP date (at least 3 months prior to your wedding)
6. Link to your website (and password if applicable)
What to include on your website
1. Everything you noted on your wedding invites (you can never be too generous with giving out this information)
2. Information regarding children (whether you can accommodate them or not)
3. A map and directions to your ceremony and reception venue(s)
4. Details of parking
5. Details of local accommodation
6. Taxi numbers (make sure you mention taxis need to be pre-booked)
7. A link so guests can RSVP (make sure to ask for dietary and allergy requirements here too)
8. A timeline so guests know what to expect on the day (make sure to note the finish time so guests know when to book their taxi’s)
9. Dress code
10. Gift information
