It’s an exciting time getting engaged, you suddenly realise every free moment you have is filled scrolling Pinterest and Instagram. There’s also an eagerness and urge within to want to view as many venues as possible on your next day off together. While being newly engaged is a extremely exciting time it does pay to be patient and consider your priorities before jumping straight in to visiting venues.
Here are the 5 things you need to consider before filling your diary with venue visits!
5 things to do before you start visiting wedding venues
1. Get clear on your budget – How much do you want to spend in total? It’s good to get an idea of costs before you visit a venue. You don’t want to fall in love with something which is way outside your budget. Your venue is only a proportion of your costs, so make sure you’ve left something in the pot for your other suppliers.
2. Location – where in the world do you want to get married? Somewhere close to home, completely unique or maybe somewhere a little more tropical than the UK? The location you choose can influence everything from the amount of people you invite, the time of year you get married and the type of venue you choose.
3. Numbers – how many people would you like to invite? There is no point visiting venues which can accommodate 50 guests if you plan on inviting 100. Unless you’re happy to cut your list in half! Don’t waste your time.
4. Vibe – how do you want to feel on the day? A stately home or hotel is going to have a completely different feel and atmosphere to a barn or marquee wedding. I ask my couples to answer this question “How would you like your wedding to be described?”. They soon come up with a list of words which help to identify their vibe!
5. Must haves – what does your venue need to have? This could be anything from having accommodation onsite to the freedom of being able to choose your team of suppliers. I normally discuss must haves as the key elements you just can’t imagine you day without. You may have to compromise on a couple of details somewhere down the line, that’s why it’s good to know early what you’re unwilling to negotiate on.
